Oz The Great And The Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi temporarily out of the horror genre, offers a prequel to the 1939 cult film The Wizard of Oz, but with a much more fantastic setting and even darker.
Not surprisingly Oz The Great And The Powerful focuses on the three evil witches who dominate Oz, and little did you know about them so far (beyond Dorothy crushing one with her house, upon arriving in Oz). Starring James Franco as Oscar Diggs, a small-time magician who, after being dragged to Oz while being persecuted for his scams (from Kansas, of course), he'll need to survive in this world of madness and fantasy.
And although he's a fake, when three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams) come across him, and doubt that he's a real magician, Oscar will have to put aside his tricks from the circus and prove he has what it takes to become not only the great and powerful Wizard of Oz ... but a better man.
